Do People Really Care About the Size of a Laptop?
The question in notebook computers has become, “Does size and weight really matter or is it more important to have a powerful workhorse computer that allows you to fit all your software and save as many movies as will fit on your productivity machine?” Another matter may be whether the smaller sizes are more worthwhile or if the light-weight portability is the key concern. I think the accessibility of different types of portable computers these days lets us truly personalize our productivity machines into something that works for us today and doesn’t have to be generic for all.
The announcement of the brand new macbookair by Apple has really given us options with the size and weight and what kind of laptop computer we take around with us on our way to work. At less than 3 pounds and wafer thin, we don’t have to get a workout every time we walk to work. It has a 13 inch LCD screen and a standard-size keyboard. Why wouldn’t I be interested? This is the very aspect I have been needing.
When I first saw the pitch for the MacBook Air with a slim, easy to carry laptop coming out of that manila envelope, I was just amazed. Now, that’s the choice I’ve been searching for. Now it doesn’t have to be a major undertaking to take my laptop with me anymore! No extra bag that can weigh almost as much as the computer, no more grimacing, no longer taking up more room than my suitcase! What a phenomenon!
The age old question of whether size is important is in front of us now and my answer, when it comes to a small laptop is a resounding, “yes, Yes, YES!” Size does matter as well as weight. For me and my mobile computer smaller is certainly better.
